Blacksmith Fieldtrip

May 1 and June 5, 2026

See firsthand how a blacksmith can help you spice up your woodworking projects. Like woodworkers, blacksmiths can make objects of many sizes and shapes, albeit out of iron instead of wood. Some examples of blacksmith-made items that could complement a woodworking project include brackets, handles, hinges, knobs, hooks, and nails, among others.

The Blacksmith’s Guild of the Potomac (BGOP) is welcoming WWG members to visit their forge in Arlington on two different dates (May 1, 2026 and June 5, 2026).

The guild will be hosting a private tour for WWG members of the mansion of Marjorie Merriweather Post (1887-1973) and to see one of the largest collections of French 18th century furnishings assembled by a single collector. A buffet lunch is included as part of the event, after which members at their option may stroll the beautiful gardens, and/or attend a special exhibit featuring the museum’s robust collection of lavish 18th, 19th, and 20th-century clocks and other timepieces. You will need to register for this event.   Hillwood web site
