Our February presentation will be presented by Austin Englund and is titled “Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest: An Ideal Restoration for an Ideal Villa Retreat”.Thomas Jefferson designed and oversaw the construction of a second home in Bedford County, VA. While the house changed hands over the years, a devastating fire changed the form and function of the home for more than 150 years.Over the past 40 years, archeologists, museum specialists, and restoration craftsmen have researched and restored not only the vision of Jefferson’s retreat home, but also the process and techniques that were originally employed.
