Valuation Service Overview

The Washington Woodworkers Guild offers Equipment and Tool valuation services. We help families to sell or donate tools, equipment and supplies from a woodworker’s estate. We also assist woodworkers who are retiring and looking to downsize their shop. We are located in the Washington DC area.

Process

We recommend a woodworking equipment and tool evaluation. This process involves having one or more members of our Guild look at your equipment/tools (power and/or hand), and recommend how best to sell it. Each situation is different and we customize each approach based on:

  • Amount of equipment
  • Accessibility of the location
  • Condition and value of the collection
  • Your individual concerns and desires

We usually take photos, inventory the equipment, and provide you with estimated values of what you have. If you want to sell the tool collection, we can help bring in buyers and manage the sale. If you want to donate the collection, we can pick up the tools and equipment.

Compensation

Depending on the amount of effort required, we may ask for a small percentage commission on the sale of the equipment/tools.

Tool/Equipment Donations

The Guild can also accept woodworking tool and equipment donations. We are a 501(c)(3) organization, which means you can take a tax deduction for your donation if your situation allows it.

Testimonials

When my husband passed it was very difficult to deal with the workshop he loved so much. I reached out to the Washington Woodworkers Guild, a non profit organization that shares a love of woodworking, & whose members serve the community with special projects.

Hearty guild-member volunteers hauled 4 truck-loads of tools up from the basement (including a cast iron joiner & drill press, it was most impressive…). They inventoried, researched & priced every item, advertised, and conducted the sale. Fifteen minutes into the sale, cars were parked 3 blocks back. It was so comforting to meet so many woodworkers, happily browsing & carefully selecting items for their projects. It was a great comfort to see that tools my husband enjoyed so much were again in good hands.

Thank you to the good folks at WWG, for handling a difficult task with dignity, professionalism, and kindness.

With great gratitude,  Linda C.

I contacted the Washington woodworker’s guild when I was faced with cleaning out a workshop full of machinery and tools that belonged to my late husband. It was an overwhelming feeling to think about how I was going to price and sell the equipment and then somehow get it out of the house. The guys from the Washington Woodworkers Guild made it so simple and quick. It was amazing. They priced the items and had a very successful sale in one afternoon. They were very respectful and honest. It was a great experience and I am grateful for their efforts.

If you have extra woodworking tools, materials, wood, etc. that you are looking to sell, you can’t go wrong with contacting the Washington Woodworkers Guild (WWG) to help! My brother passed away unexpectedly and left behind a significant collection of tools and a large pile of quality wood slabs.  Having no idea how to deal with all of this I reached out to WWG for help which turned out to be a great decision.  From the start, they were very courteous and extremely responsive showing up to the house to assess the collection just a few days after contacting them and arranging to transport everything off-site.

Unexpectedly, they spent many hours researching the antique tools to determine the best way to sell them for maximum value.  Additionally, they meticulously kept track of what was sold and frequently communicated the status of their sales earning my full trust.

Bottom line, I hardly had to lift a finger to tackle what I thought to be an impossible task and just had to sit back and wait for their check to arrive.  I can only imagine that I would have gotten a fraction of the value if I tried to sell these woodworking items through a normal Estate Sale.
