Our September 19, 2023 guild meeting will feature a presentation on Fine Furniture by Mike Jury. This meeting will be in-person and via zoom.
Mike will bring a few pieces to display and present a slide show of some work from his portfolio. He will discuss his background, construction techniques, design inspiration and how he became a professional furniture maker. Questions and discussion are highly encouraged.
He will also discuss how to become a professional woodworker and the business aspects of it whether someone is considering doing this full time or as a side hustle if there are members with those aspirations.
Biography
Michael Jury is the principal designer and craftsman at M. Jury Woodworks LLC, which he operates with his wife, Amanda, in Springfield, Virginia. They build one of a kind heirloom furniture and decorative woodwork inspired by Shaker, Japanese and Danish designs from the finest domestic hardwoods. Their award-winning furniture designs can be found in galleries and private collections throughout the country and have been featured in local and national media. Michael is a classically trained musician, U.S. Army Veteran and self-taught woodworker.
