Our August 16th meeting will feature a presentation by Guild member Joel LaFerriere entitled “Files & Rasps“.

Files and rasps have been around for quite some time.  They are available in many shapes and sizes, almost too many.  Cut through (pun intended) the confusion of the myriad of available shapes, sizes and types to enable you to choose a small set to add to your tool kit.   This will make your woodworking more enjoyable and enable you to become one with your wood.

Joel will discuss the different shapes, sizes, grading and uses of files and rasps.  He will demonstrate how to incorporate them into your woodworking and give you recommendations on what he has found to be a good general set.

Joel LaFerriere Bio

Joel LaFerriere has been woodworking since he was a teen.  He built a house full of furniture for himself and some pieces for his children and the Church that he attends.  His portfolio includes furniture in the Queen Anne, Arts and Crafts, Shaker and some modern pieces.   He also incorporated marquetry into some of his projects. In the last 5 years he has migrated to add more hand tool work which has greatly increased his enjoyment and satisfaction.
