The July 2025 WWG event is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22 at 7:30pm at the VFW in Falls Church. The presentation will be “Lathe Project Demonstration: Tips, Tricks, and Techniques” by WWG member Chris Kunzle.
In this presentation Chris will explain which tools are commonly used in wood turning, and he will describe their use on an operating lathe that will be set up at the meeting. He will also provide a working demonstration of wood turning, creating such items such as spindles, finials, bunt feet, and other components commonly used in furniture making. From his own pieces he will bring to the meeting, Chris will show some of the many possible projects that can be made on a wood lathe. If you want to get into wood turning or improve your skills with this tool, you won’t want to miss Chris’s presentation.
Chris says that “I intend to demo mostly spindle work which applies to what you might find in furniture parts. So, spindles, finials, bunt feet etc. If time permits I will also make a little goblet. On the outset I will make quick informal survey to see how much the audience knows about lathe work and then gear my remarks accordingly. I will show the various basic turning tools and their intended use. I also will bring some of my turned ‘art’ to show what all can be done on a lathe.”
Please note that the meeting will take place 1 week later than usual (on July 22).
