The Washington Woodworkers Guild is glad you are interested in becoming a member. Our members have a deep appreciation for woodworking, and love to meet others with the same penchant for making things. Aside from the camaraderie we enjoy, there are several member benefits.
Tangible Member Benefits
- The Wooden Word Newsletter is published by the Guild and delivered straight to your inbox up to four times a year. The newsletter has great articles both entertaining and useful as well as woodworking tips, jigs, reviews and retrospectives.
- Monthly Meetings and Presentations – these include Show and Tell presentations from fellow members along with nationally known speakers like Anne Briggs (Anne of All Trades). Guest Speaker List.
- Our Zoom Video Library has an archive of presentations from our monthly meetings (since May 2020) and are available for viewing on demand by Guild members.
- Members can receive a heavily Discounted Price for a SketchUp Studio license – SketchUp is a 3D modeling tool that helps you design models based on how they would look in real life.
- Guild Members receive a 10% discount at Rockler (Fairfax),Woodcraft (Springfield and Leesburg) and Colonial Hardwoods (Springfield). We also receive discounts from Eye Candy Pigments, Black Forest Sawmill and other woodworking-related vendors.
- Members have access to free Skill Session Classes taught by other guild members throughout the year. Topics have and will include Veneering and tool sharpening.
- Access to our Mentorship Program where members can sign up as mentors for one or more woodworking skills and be listed in a mentor directory for access by the membership (advice, questions, etc).
- As a member you have access to Special Events. In 2024, these events included a special presentation by Tom McLaughlin, a visit to Hardware Artisans/CP Johnson Lumber and a member picnic. In 2023, these events included a tour of the Arena Stage and a member picnic. In 2022, they included a Dovetailing class (Bob Van Dyke), an Introduction to Carving class (Mary May) and various wood and tool sales.
- Access to our Private Facebook Group where guild members share woodworking projects, ideas, tips, photos, videos and items for sale.
