Guitar Making - April 2023 Presentation - WWG

The April 18th WWG meeting will consist of a presentation called “Acoustic Guitar Building – Materials and Methods” by Rob Evans.

Rob will cover material selection and how it influences construction. He will also describe about his building methods, covering some modern approaches as well as some that are traditional.

Biography

Rob is an amateur builder in the truest sense, having built about 60 guitars over the last 30 years. He mostly builds acoustic or steel string guitars, but has a love for building classical (nylon string) instruments as well.

It all started when he found a How-to book in the University of Vermont library. He has been fortunate to take some seminars with very capable builders and teachers over the years, but by a large measure he is self taught. He loves the focus and intensity the craft demands – building a guitar is like building a race car. Everything you do impacts the end result and it is magic when the first notes come out of the instrument. It is also huge fun to work with very high quality and beautiful lumber!
